Certified Hair Loss Practitioner with USTI and AMCA

By | female hair loss, hair loss, Male Hair Loss | No Comments

Over the last few years, Sara and myself have had more and more clients coming into the treatment center, distressed by their aging, thinning hair. I knew I needed to find another way to help. I needed to truly educate myself even more on the scalp, the skin and the science that makes up the hair in order to understand the issues clients were coming to me with and to formulate a plan of action. After intensive research, I decided to continue my education with the US Trichology Institute (USTI), the #1 school in the world and the only one with certification from the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). Sara and myself have both become Certified Hair Loss Practitioner with USTI and AMCA. What does this mean for my clients?

Trichology combines dermatology with cosmetology. I’m now educated even more on advanced technology and diagnostic software aimed at studying the hair shaft, scalp and follicles to determine the cause of thinning hair and to treat – and in some cases, even prevent it.

My clients know that I won’t sell them a product or treatment I don’t believe in. Before any solutions can be offered, the root of the problem needs to be identified. During this extensive course, I studied dozens of causes and conditions that lead to thinning hair and hair loss. Most “courses” focused on function – covering up, helping a client pump up what’s left on their head to achieve volume. But over the years, we’ve come to see that not everyone wants to cover up. They simply want their own hair in improved condition.  My Hair Loss Practitioner’s Certification with USTI® has given me the opportunity to intensely study the science behind hair loss, along with up-to-date high-tech solutions currently on the market, such as FDA cleared devices.

Additionally, the Institute continues to provide former students (that’s me!) with current industry knowledge throughout the year, so I will always be able to share information on the latest treatments available.

I look forward to incorporating our latest studies into the business and helping my clients even more than before. Are you tired of hair loss controlling your life? You have even more options today!

Mitch’s Hair Loss Testimonial

By | Male Hair Loss | No Comments

We’ve recently had the pleasure of working with Mitch through the hair restoration process. Growing up, Mitch always had a nice head of hair, so going through the stages of hair loss created an unusual feeling of embarrassment for him. Having always been a strong and courageous competitor, most people would be shocked to learn that Mitch was struggling with the acceptance of his new appearance and it was affecting his self-confidence. At age 63, he decided it was time to overcome these obstacles and to take action; it was time to get his hair and confidence back.

When Mitch first found out about Christoffels Hair Restoration, he scheduled an appointment in January 2011. However, overcome with embarrassment he didn’t show up. He rescheduled for February, and even though he did show up for this appointment, he was still too afraid to make the commitment of starting a treatment program. Mitch’s fear is similar to those we often see. People are afraid of change, and the thought of what other people might say. This uncertainty, combined with the element of the unknown and end results, keeps many people away.

Fortunately, five years later, on November 9, 2016, Mitch committed to making a change in his appearance, and a change in his life. After visiting again and discussing Mitch’s options, he chose the nonsurgical procedure to have a hairpiece designed that matched his remaining hair. He’s over the top with excitement on the final look. His new hair gives him the ability to style it, while giving him the appearance he’s always wanted.

Mitch’s only regret in the process is that he didn’t start it earlier. Don’t wait five years to change your life and renew your self-confidence. Call today and schedule your free hair loss consultation. 605-334-7026 or visit www.restoringhairsd.com

How to Handle the Stages of Hair Loss

By | female hair loss, hair replacement, Hair Replacement Options, Male Hair Loss | No Comments

When a client first comes to Christoffels Hair Restoration with the signs of hair loss, they are usually dealing with many new frightening emotions. The average person doesn’t think about losing their hair, and therefore don’t understand how much it can actually affect their life until it happens. The process of hair loss can be slow and continue to gradually expand over time, or can happen rapidly resulting in hair falling out in large masses. Approximately one-third to one-half of all people deal with noticeable hair loss in their lifetime.

The number of individuals affected by hair loss continues to rise, increasing by 10% in the last year. Ninety-seven percent of hair loss with males is caused by male pattern baldness, and 70% of female hair loss is caused by female pattern baldness. Other causes of hair loss can be hormones, thyroid, anemia, over processed hair, chemicals, or pollutants in the air and food.

After noticing the signs of hair loss, people question where they can go for help and who they can trust for honest information. Hair loss is not covered by medical plans and most doctors don’t spend time with clients dealing with hair loss. As a result, people often turn to the Internet or start watching TV commercials that advertise the quick cure and “guaranteed method” of stopping hair loss.

As a certified trichology practitioner, the professionals at Christoffels Hair Restoration are able to examine the scalp and hair in a holistic way. We evaluate clients based on their personal history, lifestyle, genetic factors and environment conditions. Based on this evaluation and consultation we can suggest individualized cosmetic solutions, give nutritional advice and recommend lifestyle changes to improve the health and appearance of an individuals hair and scalp. Most men treat their hair loss between ages 20 and 55, but it’s becoming more popular for men to do so after age 55. Most women treat their hair loss between ages 35 and 70, and even some as young as 25.

If you start to notice the signs of hair loss and have similar concerns please call us at 605-334-7026 or email [email protected] We will schedule a free consultation and scalp evaluation to help you find the right solution.

Christoffels Helps Three Generations

Before and after hair loss restoration

Christoffels Hair Restoration recently had the opportunity to help Mitchell through the hair restoration process. As Virg was getting to know Mitchell, he found out that Mitchell’s father and grandfather had both visited Christoffels years ago when they first started to lose their hair. That made Mitchell represented the third generation in his family to work with Christoffels.

When Mitchell’s father and grandfather started the restoration process, the technology was very primitive and the only solution for their hair loss was to tape or clip a hairpiece over the balding area. Sadly, many people still think that is their only option.

Mitchell was losing hair and struggling to find the right answer – should he do a transplant, treatment program, or a nonsurgical option? Because of the amount of his hair loss, a transplant wouldn’t completely cover the area, and a treatment program would only maintain where Mitchell’s hair currently was, while preventing thinning in the future. So, we decided to design a trendy looking hairstyle for him.

Hair loss is a personal subject, so it can be hard for people to openly talk about it. But Mitchell decided to talk about his new look publicly and evaluate the response. He posted before and after pictures on Facebook, one with thinning hair and his old glasses, and the other with the new hairstyle and new glasses. He asked people to vote which look they liked best, and only one person commented on his new hair. Many people fear what others will say about their hair restoration and it holds them back from dealing with their hair loss, but Mitchell tackled the issue up-front and realized what many of our patients do – that there is less judgment out there than they expect.

Mitchell is very public about his hair loss, and will admit that his hair was becoming a draw back in his everyday life. We will be posting a video and interview with Mitchell about his personal journey through hair loss.

Dealing With Hair Loss Frustration

By | balding, Male Hair Loss | One Comment

My name is Brad. I’m 27 years old, but with my thinning hair I look closer to 40. My story began in 2013 when I started noticing and experiencing hair loss. I spent time online researching different options, but only found myself confused by all the information.

Finally, I found Christoffels & Company. It was located right in Sioux Falls, so I called and scheduled a free consultation with Virg. During the consultation we talked about my expectations, then looked at my options, which included hair loss treatment, semi-permanent, non-surgical and transplant.

Due to my level of hair loss, a treatment program wouldn’t have given me the results I wanted with the thickness I was hoping for.

Young male looking at his hair loss in the mirrorI was pleasantly surprised to find out that a non-surgical option met all of my expectations. My original concept of a non-surgical treatment was a hairpiece or a toupee taped to my head, but luckily there were more advanced options. Virg designed a thin, skin-like material with human hair. It was customized to fit perfectly on my balding area and blend in with my remaining hair.

On the day of the first application, I went in with pictures and a pretty good idea of how I wanted my hair to look. My wife came with me and confirmed that the final style fit me well, as I didn’t want to draw any attention to myself.

My next big concern was what my friends and co-workers were going to say. I will admit that I was a nervous wreck.

On Monday, I went to work feeling somewhat self-conscious, but also feeling confident. To my surprise, no one said anything about my hair. That made me nervous at first, because I was wondering if I looked bad and they didn’t want to say anything, or if the change looked so natural that no one even noticed.

It’s been three and a half months and I totally love my new look. When hair comes up in a conversation I am comfortable telling everyone what I’ve done.

I know others experiencing hair loss can relate to my story. I want to encourage you to give Christoffels & Company a call, tell them your story, and let them tell you what they can do for you. You will not regret it.
